Members of the Student Government Association paid a visit to the Ronald McDonald House of Houston ahead of the Battle of the Pineywoods and brought along hundreds of pounds of donations for their residents. Throughout the week SGA members collected quick serve food items, toiletries and other items to help families staying there feel more comfortable in a time of need. The Ronald McDonald House provides lodging free of charge for families of children in the hospital. To date over 100,000 families have been helped world-wide. While the Ronald McDonald House generously provides housing and other services they do not provide all meals or personal items. That is where SGA comes in. The items donated will go along way to providing a quick bite to eat during the long days of hospital visits.
“We just wanted to help out on a day we celebrate how great it is to be a college student,” said SGA President Andy Teel. “When the Battle of the Pineywoods game was announced we started looking around for a way to give back to Houston and we felt this was best,” added Sarah Feye, SGA Vice-President. Members of the SGA met with the families and helped to deliver the goods to the house. Next year SGA plans to help make dinner for the families on the Friday night before the big game. By the way, Stephen F. Austin also won the Battle of the Pineywoods, defeating Sam Houston State 31-28. The game was held at Reliant Stadium.
