The 2010 edition of Jack Camp is ready to launch. This past weekend, more than 60 Jack Camp counselors attended the annual training retreat at Piney Woods Conservation Center where they learned about how to help approximately 600 new students become Lumberjacks. Student Activities Program Coordinator Amanda Horne knows this is when things go from idea to reality. “You really get to see Jack Camp take shape during retreat weekend. The counselors get in their tribes, the competition heats up and school pride begins to grow,” Horne said. Assistant Coordinator Lacey Claver agrees: “To see the excitement build is awesome! These students are ready to get this (Jack Camp) started.”
The counselors’ weekend training included learning how to facilitate every session they will lead during Jack Camp. In addition, they also received training on how to handle any situation they may encounter. “From students being homesick to an upset stomach, I think we are ready to go,” said counselor Alex Ranc.
There are still spots open for Jack Camp 2010. Session One runs from August 16-19, and Session Two runs from August 20-23. Interested freshmen can go to http://www.sfasu.edu/studentaffairs/95.asp for information and to sign up.
